What We Treat

Health & Chronic Illness

Helping people deal with physical or chronic illness:

Physical illness and chronic health conditions often have psychological effects.

Dealing with a difficult diagnosis can feel scary and isolating. Many feel out of control and overwhelmed, unsure of how their illness will affect their identity, relationships, and future. Dealing with health concerns can trigger anxiety and/ or depression or other mood issues for patients, care-givers, and loved ones.

At Union Square Practice, we know that health-related mood changes and anxiety respond well to treatment. Several types of psychotherapy have been proven effective, including supportive and narrative therapies, as well as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). Treatment plans can also include medication.

Navigating health concerns can be challenging and stressful. This stress can be alleviated by counseling that helps the person affected and their family by providing emotional support and stress management strategies.
