What should I expect in our first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship. I like to understand what brings someone to treatment, their goals, current challenges, strengths, and any important life experiences that may be impacting their mental health. My goal is to create a space where clients feel heard, respected, and comfortable being themselves.
How do you describe your therapeutic approach?
My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and person-centered. I believe mental health care works best when clients feel empowered and actively involved in their treatment. I value creating a supportive environment while also helping clients build practical coping skills, insight, and resilience.
What inspired you to get into counseling?
Working as a nurse in both psychiatric and critical care settings showed me how deeply mental health affects every aspect of a person’s well-being. I became passionate about helping people navigate difficult moments with dignity, compassion, and evidence-based support. That passion ultimately led me to pursue advanced practice training in psychiatric mental health.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part is seeing clients regain hope and confidence in themselves. Even small moments of progress, such as feeling heard, learning a new coping skill, or getting through a difficult day, can be incredibly meaningful and motivating.
What is a self-care ritual you practice?
I value quiet moments to recharge, whether that’s spending time with loved ones, listening to music, reflecting, or taking time to disconnect from the stress of daily life. I also believe maintaining balance and setting healthy boundaries are important parts of overall wellness.
