LMSW

I am a licensed master social worker specializing in adult autism assessment. I take a neurodiversity-centered approach to assessment, understanding that autism is often overlooked in women, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC people. I am trained in standardized autism assessment measures and also incorporate collaborative interviewing to ensure each client feels fully heard. I provide limited individual, couples, and/or family sessions post-assessment to provide clients and their loved ones with space to process and understand diagnoses and neurodivergent identity. I have worked extensively within the LGBTQIA+ and disability communities and view membership in these communities as a privilege rather than a burden.

Why pursue an autism diagnosis as an adult?

Receiving an autism diagnosis in adulthood can open doors to services and supports (government services, workplace/school accommodations, funding opportunities for higher education, etc.) and provide access to a rapidly growing neurodivergent community (in-person autistic adult social spaces, workplace hiring initiatives for neurodivergent people, mentorship and tutoring programs for neurodivergent people, etc.). And most importantly, a diagnosis can lead to a better sense of self-understanding, which can lead to better relationships, better mental health, and overall improved quality of life.

Why do group therapy?

Neurodivergent people often experience isolation in being the only neurodivergent person in a space. There is immense power in simply being amongst other neurodivergent people and experiencing a sense of true belonging. Hearing the experiences of others can inspire deeper self-compassion, encourage stronger boundaries, and illuminate new perspectives. Groups are an opportunity for neurodivergent people to realize they are not alone and build a reliable community to grow with.

What research areas are you interested in?

I conduct research on the impacts of anti-autistic stigma on autistic adults and use collaborative research methodologies to develop mental health interventions created by and for autistic adults. My current work focuses on considering how pressure to mask socially may relate to substance use in autistic adults and developing a harm-reduction intervention that centers unique autistic experiences.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

Witnessing clients unpack internalized ableism and build pride in autistic/neurodivergent identity. Watching clients experience an authentic sense of belonging and sameness in group therapy for neurodivergent people.

What’s something your clients might be surprised to learn about you?

I absolutely love tapirs, collect tapir items, and have traveled to remote parts of central America to try to spot one in the wild!

What is a self-care ritual you practice?

I have an AMC movie pass and see as many movies as possible!
