Daniel Richter

MD

I’m a board-certified psychiatrist with 20 years of experience, specializing in psychotherapy. My work focuses on treating individuals with eating disorders, mood and anxiety challenges, and interpersonal difficulties. I have a particular interest in helping people navigate life stressors—such as ambition, loss, reactivity, and emotional intensity—and understanding how these forces shape both personal and professional relationships.

Since 2004, I’ve maintained a private psychiatry and consulting practice, while also spending over two decades at the New York State Psychiatric Institute/Columbia University, where I most recently served as Chief of the Eating Disorders Inpatient Unit.

In 2021, I joined the full-time faculty at the CUNY School of Medicine as a Clinical Professor, where I now serve as Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment. I also teach medical students, consult with Silver Hill Hospital, and serve on the faculty at Silver Hill Academy for Research and Education. I continue to consult at NYSPI/Columbia and am an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry.

My greatest satisfaction comes from working one-on-one with patients to help them better understand themselves, achieve their goals, and find greater fulfillment.
