WHAT IS MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING?

Do you want to make a change in your life, but are unsure how? MI is a way for your therapist and you to collaborate on fostering your motivation by helping you to identify your core beliefs and goals and how they relate to the behavioral changes you would like to meet. This therapy can lead to profound changes in behavior.

Some clients for whom this therapy is effective come to us because they want to make a change in their lives but feel they lack the resolve or commitment to do so. Others are ambivalent about a change in an important relationship and need help. Rather than a stand-alone therapy, Motivational Enhancement work is based on the work of Motivational Interviewing. MI is a way for your therapist and you to collaborate on fostering your motivation by helping you to identify your core beliefs and goals and how they relate to the behavioral changes you would like to meet. This “way of being” as MI is sometimes called can lead to profound changes in behaviors that have been previously hard to change. In addition to individual work on developing motivation, we also offer groups designed to help you make specific changes in a particular behavior.
