What should I expect in our first session?
Our first session will be spent beginning to get to know one another and is also an opportunity to see if we are a good fit. We will spend time discussing the things that may have brought you to therapy and to explore how we may best work together.
How do you describe your therapeutic approach?
My approach is warm and collaborative and rooted in curiosity about you as an individual and how you navigate through the world. I believe that no matter who we are, therapy can play a vital role in helping us live connected, authentic and happier lives.
What do you specialize in?
I specialize in supporting clients who are experiencing grief and loss in any form. Regardless of background, everyone faces loss or significant changes that may evoke deep sorrow. While grief is a universal human experience, everyone processes grief in their own way and on their own timeline. My role as a therapist is to help create a safe and supportive space for clients to face their losses with empathy and understanding in an environment where they feel safe and supported.
What inspired you to get into counseling?
I came to therapeutic work after 20 years as a documentary photographer and artist. My photographic work focused on working collaboratively with subjects to create deep narratives about people and their relationships and it allowed me to be with people experiencing profound hardship or profound joy. The curiosity and desire for connection that drove me to be a photographer is what also inspired me to get into counseling.
What is a self-care ritual you practice?
I take weekly ceramics classes and have for several years. It’s so centering (pun not intended) to use my hands to make things. It’s also very hard to look at my phone when my hands are full of clay – so it has the added benefit of being a regular break from my screen.
