Can TMS be used to treat conditions other than Depression and OCD?
TMS is FDA-approved and indicated for treatment of both Major Depressive Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. However, ongoing research has found that TMS can be effective in treating other conditions, such as Anxiety, PTSD, and smoking cessation.
Because TMS requires more research for conditions other than Depression and OCD, using TMS for these other conditions is considered “off-label”. Insurance companies will generally not reimburse for off-label use unless there is significant research supporting it. However, this may change in the upcoming years as TMS is being actively researched and is rapidly evolving.
Currently, CCBH at USP offers TMS for treatment of Depression and OCD. If you are interested in learning more about the off-label uses of TMS, please contact us and we will be able to discuss whether or not TMS is an appropriate treatment for your presenting concern.
