What makes therapy work is a strong relationship between patient and clinician. Your therapist’s ability to understand you and your story and to truly connect with you makes all the difference in your treatment.
Since our inception in 2013, we have worked to recruit, train and support not only the best-trained or most experienced therapists, but also people who share our values. At Union Square Practice, we believe that psychotherapy and medication management should be conducted in an active, practical way – with great warmth, and with a sense of humor.
Unlike in solo practices or online programs, our therapists work as a team and are in contact daily. Through weekly meetings and ongoing training opportunities, we continually elevate our skills on the newest evolutions on evidence-based practices, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and more. We also invite outside experts to regularly introduce our team to the latest innovations in psychopharmacology. We want to make sure we know about new ways to use medications to help you just as soon as they are available.
We know that seeking out help for mental health requires trust and courage. We take our role in helping you very seriously. When you reach out, we make a commitment to getting back to you very quickly, usually within an hour.
We then work to make the process of finding the best therapist or doctor for you as easy as possible. To start, you will speak with Noelle, Kyle or Solomon, one of our dedicated clinical coordinators. They will answer your questions and get a sense of what issues have brought you to us, then describe to you some of your options. Sometimes the match between therapist and client will be clear: We have just the expert you need. More often we will have a range of clinicians who can offer the skills and experience you need so availability, fee, and venue will help us decide – as will, of course, the more subtle art of helping you find a wonderful personality fit.
Dr. Michael Dulchin and Dr. Jonathan Fader met over 20 years ago while collaborating on patient care at Columbia University Medical Center. They recognized immediately that they shared a core belief: Successful therapy is based on genuine human connection, and requires openness, practicality, and a sense of humor.
