What should I expect in our first session?
You can expect to be welcomed into a caring and non-judgmental space. The first session is an intake session, so I’ll ask you a series of questions to get to know you better, and answer any questions you may have about me or my approach. We’ll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and what your goals are for our time together.
How do you describe your therapeutic approach?
My approach is highly collaborative and versatile. Depending on what you bring to the session, we can use a number of approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, and narrative therapy. You are the expert on you and it’s my job to tap into that knowledge and help you develop a more positive understanding of yourself.
What inspired you to get into counseling?
I was a teacher for four years and realized that my favorite part of the job wasn’t the lessons or the grading, it was the conversations I’d have with students about challenges they were facing, either socially, emotionally, or academically. I followed that feeling and it led me to counseling.
In another life, if you weren’t working in counseling, what would you be doing?
I would probably be a librarian. I would love to be surrounded by books all day, and I would love to help people find new and exciting things to read and connect them with essential services.
