What should I expect in our first session?
In our first session, we will spend some time talking about what brings you to therapy and discuss the ways in which your current experiences are negatively impacting you. I’ll ask about any previous therapy you’ve had and how I can be most helpful to you. My goal in our first session is for you to feel welcomed and heard.
How long have you been practicing? What has your counseling experience been like?
I have been in practice for 12 years working with children, teens, and families. Much of my clinical experience has involved working with children individually in play therapy sessions. I’ve come to really love and appreciate how supporting parents and the whole family system positively impacts kids.
What do you specialize in?
I specialize in parenting challenges, trauma, and family dynamics. I especially enjoy working with families with young children.
What research areas are you interested in?
I am interested in the ways in which trauma and neglect impact development.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
I enjoy hearing people’s stories and seeing light bulbs turn on. I really enjoy being a part of someone’s life and personal growth, facilitating them to make new connections and discover that the answers they’re seeking are already there inside of them.
What inspired you to get into counseling?
I think relationships are extremely powerful, and seeing the impact a positive therapeutic relationship can have on someone inspired me to get into this field.
In another life, if you weren’t working in counseling, what would you be doing?
I’d be a book critic. I just love a good novel!
What’s something your clients might be surprised to learn about you?
I’ve been to 20 countries across six continents.
What is a self-care ritual you practice?
Boundaries! One of my favorite adages right now is, “No is a complete sentence.”
