What should I expect in our first session?
I generally start by welcoming you and helping you get comfortable in the space. Next I’ll ask you questions about your clinical, social, and medical history, and answer any questions you have for me. From there, we’ll come up with a plan together for how we might move forward.
How do you describe your therapeutic approach?
I believe the relationship between clinician and client is one of the most important parts of the therapeutic alliance, even in medication management. I draw from person-centered and humanistic schools of therapy, with an emphasis on empathy, careful listening, and a nonjudgmental environment.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing my patients feel better! Helping my clients improve their lives is what keeps me
coming back to work—but the core work doesn’t come from me, it comes from you. I may
have helped show you the way, but you made the journey.
In another life, if you weren’t working as an NP, what would you do?
Open a french fry stand with twenty different flavors.
What’s a self-care ritual you practice?
I love watching sports and playing basketball, and I love to taste new foods and try out new recipes.
