Daniel Laor

MD

I am a psychiatrist, scholar, and medical educator with experience providing care through integrative psychotherapy and medication management. My perspective is informed by understanding the interaction of life stages and transitions, individual interests, career choices, and a person’s family and relationship history. My background in music and education shaped my approach with curiosity, attunement to personal expression, and deep understanding of the process of bidirectional learning.

What should I expect in our first session?

In our first session I want to hear about what’s bringing you to treatment and how I could be helpful. We will discuss your history, challenges, and goals so that we can determine whether my approach would be a good fit for you. At the end of our session, I will share my initial thoughts and recommendations. If I believe a different provider may be a better fit, I’ll offer a referral.

How do you describe your therapeutic approach?

My training and interests lie in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which aims to understand and explore an individual’s experience and its personal meaning. I try to cultivate a safe space in which patients feel empowered to speak freely.

In cases where medications could be helpful, I prescribe those in addition to therapeutic treatment.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

I value the opportunity to engage with someone’s experience and offer help on multiple levels, from providing symptom relief through medication management to deciphering one’s life experiences and conflicts with psychotherapy.
