Social Anxiety
Social anxiety is the experience of intense fear or avoidance of social situations. Social anxiety can affect both children and adults.
Common anxiety provoking situations include:
- Public speaking
- Being called upon in class
- Meeting new people
- Doing routine things such as eating in front of others
- Any performance situation; from the field to the stage or boardroom
As a result, social anxiety can get in the way of daily life. People with social anxiety often feel afraid or self-conscious. Many times they will avoid social situations.
At Union Square Practice, we develop an individualized treatment plan based on each client’s needs and goals. For social anxiety, we use therapy, medication management, or a combination of both.
